Introduction to Git

Git is a widely used tool for versioning and collaboration in software development. We will guide you through the basic concepts and show you how to use Git in a team.

What will you learn?

  • Local version management: You will learn the core concepts of local versioning with Git, e.g. workspace, staging area and repository and get to know the basic commands (e.g. status, add, commit, diff, rm, mv, log, reset, restore).

  • Branching and project organisation: Learn all about branching strategies and project structuring in Git. Also learn how to resolve merge conflicts.

  • Remote repositories: You will understand the integration of centralised remote repositories and explore the possibilities of hosting platforms such as GitHub or GitLab.

  • Best practice: You will round off your knowledge with practical examples.

The course is aimed at anyone who wants to build a solid foundation in the use of Git for version management and team collaboration. Practical exercises will facilitate understanding and enable you to use Git effectively in your own projects and in your team.
