Navigating the Digital Public Sphere
How do we find our way in a digital public sphere where content is being created at an ever-faster pace and is becoming increasingly difficult to categorize?
An event organized by the European Information Center (EIZ) in Erfurt addressed this question. Our colleague Björn Marz attended the event on behalf of FIDA and as a board member of ITnet Thüringen e.V.
Titled “Finding Your Way in the Digital Public Sphere—Social Media, AI, and the Importance of Media Literacy,” the event focused on the influence of social media and artificial intelligence on public communication. The discussion also addressed the responsibilities that politicians, the media, institutions, and users themselves bear to ensure that information remains transparent and trustworthy.
Following opening remarks by Stephan König, State Secretary for Media and Europe, Jochen Fasco from the Thuringian State Media Authority and Jane Oispuu from the European Commission’s Representation in Germany provided insights into their work and current European developments.
The event provided many interesting insights and highlighted the importance of media literacy and a conscious approach to digital content in a public sphere increasingly shaped by social media and AI.
Many thanks to the EIZ Erfurt for the successful event and the engaging discussion!
